Description

Aquarium Requirements:

  • Tank Size: 125+ gallons (475+ liters)

  • Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C)

    • pH: 8.1–8.4

    • Salinity: 1.020–1.025

    • Water Flow: Moderate to strong

Size & Lifespan:

  • Adult Size: Up to 12 inches (30 cm)

  • Lifespan: 10–15 years with proper care

Behavior & Tank Mates:

  • Semi-aggressive, especially toward other tangs or similar-shaped fish

  • Generally peaceful in a community tank with non-aggressive species

  • Compatible with:

    • Clownfish, gobies, wrasses, angelfish, butterflyfish

    • Other tangs only in very large tanks and with caution

  • Reef-safe – does not bother corals

Diet & Feeding:

  • Primarily herbivorous, grazes constantly

  • Feed multiple times daily:

    • Nori (seaweed) on a veggie clip

    • Spirulina flakes or pellets

    • Frozen herbivore blends

    • Occasional meaty foods like mysis shrimp (not essential)

Additional Care Notes:

  • Excellent algae eater – great for controlling nuisance algae

  • Prone to marine ich and HLLE (head and lateral line erosion) if stressed or underfed

  • Needs plenty of swimming space and live rock for grazing

  • Hardy and adaptable, making it a good choice for aquarists building their first large reef tank
