Description

Aquarium Requirements:

  • Tank Size: 300+ gallons (1,135+ liters)

  • Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)

    • pH: 8.1–8.4

    • Salinity: 1.020–1.025

    • Water Flow: Moderate to strong

Size & Lifespan:

  • Adult Size: Up to 24 inches (60 cm)

  • Lifespan: 15–20 years in captivity with excellent care

Behavior & Tank Mates:

  • Peaceful and non-aggressive, even toward other tangs

  • Great for community reef tanks with other peaceful or semi-aggressive fish

  • Compatible with:

    • Clownfish, angels, wrasses, butterflyfish, gobies, other tangs

  • Reef-safe – does not harm corals

Diet & Feeding:

  • Herbivorous, but will accept a variety of foods

  • Feed several times daily:

    • Dried or fresh seaweed (nori)

    • Spirulina-based flakes and pellets

    • Frozen herbivore preparations

    • Occasionally mysis shrimp or brine shrimp

Additional Care Notes:

  • Very active swimmer—needs open space and strong filtration

  • Provide plenty of live rock for grazing

  • May outgrow most home aquariums—best suited for public aquariums or advanced hobbyists with very large tanks

  • Hardy once established, but sensitive to poor water quality
