Aquarium Requirements:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 150–200 gallons (568–757 liters) due to their active swimming nature.
  • Water Conditions:
    • Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)
    • pH: 8.1–8.4
    • Salinity: 1.020–1.025
    • Water Flow: Moderate to high

Behavior & Tank Mates:

  • Generally peaceful but can be territorial toward other butterflyfish.
  • Best kept alone or in pairs, but can cohabitate with peaceful tankmates like tangs, angelfish, and other non-aggressive species.
  • Not reef-safe—they may nip at corals, anemones, and invertebrates.

Diet & Feeding:

  • Carnivorous & omnivorous—prefers a varied diet.
  • Offer mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, marine-based pellets, and algae.
  • Needs frequent feedings (2–3 times a day) to maintain health.

Additional Care Tips:

  • Requires plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing.
  • Susceptible to marine ich and other parasites—quarantine before introducing to a main tank.
  • Needs excellent water quality and regular maintenance.
