- 180+ gallons recommended for a community setup

- Ammonia & Nitrites: 0 ppm
- Nitrates: Below 20 ppm
Tank Setup:
- Plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots
- Open swimming space to accommodate its active nature
- Strong water flow to replicate natural reef currents
- Secure lid, as tangs are known to jump when startled
Tank Mates:
- Can be territorial, especially toward other tangs and similar-shaped fish
- Best kept with semi-aggressive to peaceful tank mates
- Avoid keeping multiple tangs unless the tank is very large (200+ gallons)
Diet & Feeding:
- Herbivorous; requires a diet rich in marine algae, seaweed (nori), spirulina, and herbivore pellets
- May accept frozen mysis or brine shrimp as occasional treats
- Frequent feedings (2-3 times daily) help reduce aggression
The Purple Tang is a stunning and hardy species, but due to its territorial nature, it requires a large tank and careful tank mate selection for long-term success.
